Project / International Bank Malaysia > Alliance Bank
Task / Name Generation, Logo & Visual Identity Design, Signage, Corporate Identity Guidelines
Client / The Alliance Banking Group
Year/ 2001–2002

On 1 January 2001, Multi-Purpose Bank successfully completed the merger exercise with six other financial institutions, namely International Bank Malaysia, Sabah Bank, Sabah Finance, Bolton Finance, Amanah Merchant Bank and Bumiputera Merchant Bankers.

Having previously designed the logo and visual identity for International Bank Malaysia, we were assigned to create a name, logo and visual identity programme for the newly-merged financial entity.

We named the new entity ‘Alliance Bank’ as it aptly described the merger of the seven financial institutions—a bank consolidation initiative by the Malaysian government. Although International Bank Malaysia was not the anchor bank in the merger, its top management indicated their preference for the navy blue background and red bar to be incorporated into the design of the logo for this new entity.

Our scope of work for Alliance Bank covered all bases: name generation and logo, stationery, forms, collaterals, publications, advertisements, signage standardisation programme, and a comprehensive visual identity guidelines manual.

All offices and retail branches of the seven financial institutions throughout the country had to undergo a quick overhaul, and the easiest and most economical means of establishing its new identity across all physical locations was to paint some part of the façade in the bank’s signature red.

The bank's security pattern was created to prevent fraud and protect confidentiality. It is used in envelopes (in the form of an opaque background) to keep people from seeing the content.

The online identity manual is especially detailed, running over 200 pages, and covers even guidelines for design management processes.

The Alliance Bank logo was modified in 2016 when a new CEO came onboard. The revised logo (below) was done by an advertising agency as part of a rebranding exercise.
